The beginning of a new school year brings new expectations and often an awareness of our changing minds and bodies. Our early fall session will provide a counter-balance as we explore identity, self-awareness and provide concrete strategies for comfortably navigating the world. Throughout this series, the girls will engage in conversation with teen mentors, adult guides and each other. We’ll share stress reduction strategies and talk about healthy ways of managing anxiety. 

Communication Strategies - Late Fall 2017 Session

There are so many ways to communicate our feelings, ideas and emotions. During this series, we’ll be investigating tools for self-expression, self-advocacy and empathy and turning our curious minds to the myriad ways these tools of expression can be applied to our relationships with friends, family members, teachers and the world. 

Being an Expert - Winter 2018 Session

How are we all experts? What are the roles we choose? What are the roles given to us? 
How can flexibility help us to become expert? How can it help us cope when we are outside our comfort zone, when we don’t know all the rules or when we lack materials or instructions?
Through role playing, journaling and creative assembly we will talk about our roles as the “expert.”

Tool Box Training- Early Spring 2018 Session

Think, talk, write, do, be. Everyone approaches a problem from a different angle. We recognize that each learner has strengths and deficits and we work to encourage flexibility, self-acceptance and creative problem solving. Throughout this four-week series, we’ll explore a variety of concrete tools for self-soothing and create an actual “Tool Box” filled with items designed to calm the senses. 

Fairy Tales- Late Spring 2018 Session

What happens when Rapunzel breaks out of the tower? How might Sleeping Beauty wake herself? What makes the Wicked Stepmother tick? During this session, we’ll look at identity through the lens of fairy tales and comic books. Through writing, acting and art, we’ll explore the roles of hero/heroine, villain, sidekick and magical person and talk about how we might inhabit these roles and how we use these roles to see ourselves.
